What will students in a Transportation Major study?

Students enrolled in Transportation Major will take a bundle of nine Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits in which students earn: 

* Two Transportation major credits

* Two Manufacturing major credits with Transportation linked projects

* One English credit, one Math credit and one Science or Business credit tailored to include a 6 hour unit focused on transportation...also known as a CLA
 
* Two cooperative education credits to gain workplace experience that enables students to refine, extend and practice sector-specific knowledge and skills
 
* Experiential learning, career exploration and reach ahead activities within the sector
 
* Certifications and training programs/courses in basic health and safety, first aid, CPR and hazardous materials
 
* Essential Skills and work habits required in the sector

* The developement of the students Ontario Skills Passport

Advantages of a Student Earning a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Transportation:

The Student Will:

* have a strong foundation for a wide variety of careers in the Transportation sector 

* be able to customize their education to suit their interests and talents while meeting the requirements for the OSSD 

* focus on sector-specific knowledge and skills that are valued by the sector and postsecondary educational institutions

* receive an SHSM Record outlining and identifying completion of the required components, including certifications and training programs and sector-specific credits the student has achieved 

* receive an OSSD with the Red SHSM Seal identifying that all of the required components are complete for the SHSM
